Goldenrod is distinguished by its numerous small flower heads, characteristic of the plant. In summer and autumn, it lights up the landscapes of Quebec with its bright yellow floral tops. It particularly likes wetlands, the banks of rivers and the St. Lawrence valley.

First Nations passed down a wealth of knowledge about the applications and therapeutic properties of North American plants. For example, the Iroquois nation used the roots and flowers of goldenrod as an infusion to relieve side stitches and as an emetic for excess bile.

The Iroquois and the Thompsons also used Goldenrod for their soothing properties on sleep disorders in infants. They were preparing infusions of tubers to give to babies or decoctions of the whole plant to add to their bath.

In addition to these applications, Goldenrod is recognized for its antipyretic, anti-diarrheal, liver stimulating and analgesic properties for sore throats (by chewing the crushed flowers). It is also used as a vulnerary, as a cleansing decoction for pain and wounds in horses. Current scientific research confirms and validates this empirical knowledge passed down from generation to generation for thousands of years.
